Looking for an incredible, low-impact, full-body workout? Consider adding a rowing machine to your home gym in Winnipeg. These machines are easy to store, offer both interval and distance-based training and provide an excellent workout. Our rowing machines come with a variety of features, giving you the ability to customize your workout to your needs.
Water-based rowers are the rowing machines that most closely match the experience of rowing a boat on the water.
Size and weight:Water-based rowing machines are both fairly large and heavy; most are at least 7 feet / 213 cm long, and weigh at least 50 pounds / 22.7 kg without water (and often more than 50 pounds). With water, most water-based rowing machines weigh over 100 pounds / 45.4 kg. You’ll need space in your home gym to install a water rowing machine. Our team can handle delivery and installation in Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
Feel:Want to feel like you’re actually rowing a boat out on the water? Water rowing is the perfect thing. Most water rowing machines are also made out of hardwood, further emulating a real rowing experience. The feeling of rowing on these machines is incredibly smooth—you may find that the stroke feels heavier at the beginning, and lighter toward the end.
Noise:Water rowing machines are the least noisy type of rowing machine available. They do make some noise—but the noise is the gentle sloshing of water. For many users, this noise is a feature, not a bug—the tranquil sound of the water helps them get into the zone and does a great job of further imitating rowing in a real boat.
Console:Water-based rowers typically come with fairly small consoles; these consoles offer basic information on stroke rate, heart rate, intensity, session duration, and the distance you’ve rowed. They may also offer built-in workout programs and mobile phone apps that allow you to enter races, track progress, and access different workout programs.
Resistance:The resistance of a water-based rower comes from the speed and intensity of your rowing—just like it does if you’re rowing in real life. This means you can adjust the resistance by simply rowing slower or faster—great for interval training.
Who is it for:Water-based rowing machines are for anyone who wants the indoor workout experience that most closely resembles rowing on the water. They’re also a great choice for anyone who wants to avoid making too much noise while working out, and for people who want a dynamic workout, adjusting resistance by simply adjusting their stroke.
Air rowing machines are commonly seen in community gyms; they offer smooth performance and adjustable resistance.
Size and weight:Like water-based rowers, air-based rowing machines are fairly heavy and take up a decent amount of space. They tend to weigh slightly less and be a little less wide than water rowers because they don’t need a water tank; many models are about the same length or longer than water rowers, however. Many air rowers can be divided into parts for easy storage.
Feel:Air rowing machines offer an incredibly smooth workout experience. The feeling isn’t quite the same as rowing on water, and strokes tend to start lighter and end heavier. Their design is often mostly plastic and metal, too—more of a traditional workout experience, less of an attempt to emulate rowing in a real boat.
Noise:Air rowers are noisier than water-based rowers. The whirring noise created by the fan is actually seen as a plus to some of our customers who appreciate the intensity it adds to their workout.
Console:The consoles on air rowers are similar to those found on water rowers; they tend to be simple, displaying stroke rate, heart rate, intensity, session duration, and the distance you’ve rowed. Many offer built-in workout programs, and mobile phone apps that allow you to enter races, track progress, and access different workout programs.
Resistance:Your air rower may provide adjustable resistance through dampening or magnetic resistance; additionally, like water rowers, the more intensely you row, the more resistance the air will provide. This gives you even tighter control over resistance levels, making air rowers an excellent choice for interval training.
Who is it for:An air rower may be the perfect fit if you’re looking for a rower that provides highly adjustable resistance levels. People who aren’t worried about noise and want a rower that’s easier to store should look into air rowers.
Ski-ergs aren’t rowing machines; they’re another way of getting a full-body workout in your home gym. They more closely resemble the experience of skiing than the experience of rowing.
Size and weight:Ski-ergs are the most portable of the three options here; they’re standing machines, so they take up considerably less length. They’re a great choice if you have a smaller gym. You can even mount some ski-ergs to walls.
Feel:A ski-erg doesn’t emulate rowing—true to the name, it’s a closer experience to skiing. The ski-erg can also be an excellent choice for people with range of motion issues in the knees or ankles, or anyone who might have difficulty sitting in a rowing machine for an extended period of time due to back issues or other conditions.
Noise:A ski-erg will create the same amount of noise as an air-based rower; they operate on the same basic principles. This means they can make a fair amount of noise.
Console:Similar to rowers, ski-ergs have fairly basic consoles, showing stroke rate, heart rate, intensity, session duration, and the distance you’ve rowed. Most also offer built-in workout programs and mobile phone apps that allow you to enter races, track progress, and access different workout programs.
Resistance:Ski-ergs typically use dampers to provide adjustable resistance—like rowers, the level of resistance they provide increases as the intensity of your movements increases.
Who is it for:Ski-ergs are a great alternative to rowing machines for people who don’t have enough space for a rowing machine, for skiers, and for people who simply prefer the motions and posture you need to adopt to use a ski-erg.
