Upper body machines are great for weightlifting beginners, professional athletes, and everyone in between. Unlike free weights, machines restrict your range of motion, helping you develop your form and isolate the muscles you want to work on. Once you’ve perfected your form, you can use a combination of free weights and machines to achieve all of your upper body fitness goals!
At Fitness Experience, we carry a wide range of different upper body machines, including machines for chests, lats, biceps, triceps, and more. We also have multi-station machines to give you a compact way to work out your entire upper body!
Chest press machines emulate the movement and resistance of a bench press, targeting the chest, front delts, and triceps. There are incline, decline, vertical, and flat chest press machines; each targets slightly different muscles.
Pec deck machines, also known as chest fly machines, are one of the best machines for building your chest muscles. A pec deck primarily targets your pectoral muscles, but also strengthens your shoulder blades, torso, and supporting muscles.
Lat pulldown machines work your lats (more formally known aslatissimus dorsi)—the muscles in the middle of the back used for pulling movements. The workout you get from using a lat pulldown machine is similar to performing pull-ups.
Seated row machines help you strengthen your back, shoulder, and arm muscles. They’re a great choice for beginners and people who have a hard time performing exercises while standing.
Shoulder press machines activate the deltoids and strengthen your shoulder muscles. They also engage your pecs, triceps, and other supporting muscles. They emulate the movement and resistance of a traditional barbell shoulder press.
Bicep curl machines isolate and activate the bicep muscles in your upper arm. They emulate the motion and resistance you would get from curling dumbbells.
Tricep extension machines isolate and activate the tricep muscles in the back of your upper arms. The motion and resistance provided by a tricep extension machine resemble the movements of dumbbell tricep extensions.
Multi-station upper body machines combine two or more upper body machines together, helping you save space in your home gym. Large multi-station machines can even be used by multiple people simultaneously, giving you even more flexibility in your workout schedule.
The right upper body machine for your home gym will depend on your fitness goals and the equipment that you have available. Upper body workout machines are necessarily specialized because they work to isolate certain muscles. Want to work on your lats? Get a lat pulldown machine. Looking to grow your chest? Think about a pec deck machine.
Ideally, you’ll work to get enough upper body exercise equipment to complete a full upper body workout from the comfort of your home gym. You might do this through a combination of exercise machines and free weights, or you might opt for a high-end multi-station upper body machine.
